There are many levels of communications qualification available to cadets, not all of them are radio; communications now involves networking, wifi and Cybercrime protection and prevention.

Basic Radio Operator

The initial module cadets undertake teaches them the basics of Radio Communication and how to operate a radio.

Radio Operator

Building upon the initial module, cadets are able to complete the Radio Operator Course. The course aims to develop the skills and knowledge required to operate a radio and act as a radio operator as part of a flight of cadets.

Radio Communicator

Cadets who successfully complete the operator course are able to complete the Radio Communicator Course. The course aims to develop the skills required to run a network control station, during a radio led exercise and further develop communication skills.

Radio Specialist

Cadets who successfully complete the radio communicator course are able to complete the Radio Communications Specialist Course. The course aims to develop the skills required to build a complete radio station, either in a building or in the field. There are two modules within this training: Technical Skills and Radio Deployment.

 

 

Cyber Awareness

The initial module is taught as part of the basic radio and cyber communications syllabus and covers cyber security, including: on-line footprints, texting, sexting and cyber bullying.

Foundation Cyber

Building upon the initial module, cadets are able to complete the Foundation Cyber Course. The 1 day course aims to develop the skills and knowledge required to understand and protect oneself from the dangers inherent in modern information and communication technology.

Cyber Specialist

Cadets who successfully complete the foundation course are able to complete the Cyber Specialist Course. The 2 day course aims to develop the skills required to creatively use information and communication technology in a responsible, competent and confident way.

Advanced Cyber Specialist

Cadets who successfully complete the specialist course are able to complete the Advanced Cyber Specialist Course. The 5 day course aims to develop the skills required to protect networks from intrusion and test those networks using Penetration Testing techniques.
